Taurus Season and Animal Dignity

Animal dignity. Taurus is animal dignity. The evolutionary astrologer Steven Forrest wrote these words, and this is still the best way I know to express what Taurus offers. Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet of art, connection, and grace. Where Taurus lounges in our chart, we see where we might benefit from an approach to life characterised by gravity and grace (also the title of a gorgeous Simone Weil book).

My natal Moon is in Taurus, in my Fourth House, right next to my North Node. When I listen to my lived experience of this Taurus Fourth House Moon-North Node Conjunction, what I hear is that my happiness matters - and it’s okay to find myself giddy, speechless and overjoyed by the simplest of things. The long and lazy graze of fingertips on newly bathed skin. The scent of comfort food trailing in from the kitchen. Loving messages in my inbox. Being swaddled in faux fur as I curl up in bed with a new book, warmed by an electric blanket. Cleaning my latex dress, losing time in the textures and temperatures of the task. Playing the same tracks over and over again as I draw or write, just because. Sending cheeky nudes (to worthy people only). My eyes, watching their eyes watching me. My fingers in their hair.

“I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself,” wrote D.H. Lawrence. Capitalism demands that we apologise for our all-too-human loves and longings, that the only way out of self-hatred is ever increasing consumption. We want to rest, but we’re supposed to be “busy.” We want to have sex, but we can only do so if we look and act and dress in certain ways, that are almost always the complete opposite of who we are after we give ourselves the chance to know ourselves. We want to say what’s on our minds, about things that matter - love, death, politics - and we talk ourselves out of our intuition, saying we’re saving time and money by not rocking the boat. And what have we lost in doing so?
