Bloody Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse

In traditional astrology, eclipses are bad omens. Omens of the you’ll-be-down-one-king variety. I’m not a traditionalist of any kind but with the public health news in Naarm these days, this approach might have its merits still. Tomorrow at roughly 9.30pm AEST, the earth’s shadow prevents the light of the Gemini Sun from reaching the Sagittarius Moon. A blood moon is predicted.

The ancient world had no electricity. Without the large lights in the sky, travel would have been more akin to fumbling. Flailing. Blind leading blind, living on a prayer.

Gemini and Sagittarius are about wisdom – the wisdom of the neighbourhood and the wisdom of the traveller. I prefer having the lights on, but darkness can be instructive. Who and what you want with you when you’re surrounded by darkness is telling. Whose thoughts do you want in your head? Whose hand would you like to hold? If you’re travelling through the wilderness without the moon to light your way, what do you shed to lighten your load? Is it easier to be truthful to yourself when you can’t see your reflection in the mirror?

I’m starting a new hospitality job tomorrow. Not sure how I feel about jumping into a completely new environment on the night of the lunar eclipse, with Mercury retrograde just around the corner. I don’t blame the planets for decisions I’ve made, but I would have liked to proceed under kinder stars.

You don’t choose the sky you get, but you can choose to do your best. To be honest. To be kind. To be hopeful when it’s wise to be so.

If you’re around, come taste food I’m cooking at The Wilds at Rising Melbourne as I get my Bourdain/Orwell on. Wear a mask, be safe, don’t be a dick, and let me know how you like it.
