Abdul El-Sayed: Scorpio Stellium, Exalted Mars

Abdul El-Sayed plays to win. What politician doesn’t, you ask? Yet beyond his relative youth as a politician (just turned 42), specialist training and experience (as a public health PhD and epidemiology expert), chiselled build and smouldering gaze, what makes El-Sayed unique is his determination to change how the race is run, how the game is played. Mavericks get away with ratbaggery if they’re wealthy and/or white. El-Sayed is proudly Muslim, born in Michigan to Egyptian immigrant parents, and is widely favoured to be the next Senator for Michigan, and the first Muslim senator of the United States.

There’s no known birth time for El-Sayed, so I’ve set this chart based on his publicly listed birth date and a presumed noon birth time. Even without a confirmed birth time though, much can be seen about his chart that aligns with what’s known about him.

El-Sayed’s chart is Scorpio-heavy and Capricorn-heavy. The presence of multiple planets in the same sign, especially three or more inner planets, is called a stellium. So El-Sayed has a Scorpio stellium and a Capricorn stellium. Stelliums tell us that the house where they fall is quite active in the person’s life. If a large number of planets occupy the same house and sign, the other houses in the chart are ruled by planets in that same sign. Everything can be traced back to that spot. For example, someone with a seventh house stellium (e.g., Venus, Mercury, Mars in the seventh house) will have their Venus-ruled Taurus and Libra houses, Mercury-ruled Gemini and Virgo houses, and Mars-ruled Aries and Scorpio houses) all ruled by these seventh house planets. The seventh house is the house of partnership, so the affairs of these six houses (essentially half the birth chart) will always lead back to the quality of intimacy, collaboration, relationship dynamics and the partners they end up with. That’s a lot of pressure to put on one house but some lives do unfold like that, inextricable from the quality of partnerships, good or not.

El-Sayed has the Sun, Mercury, Saturn, Pluto and the South Node in Scorpio. He has Mars and Jupiter in Capricorn (and in the 1/12 chance this chart is right, the Ascendant too). Mars rules his Scorpio house, so Mars is the ultimate dispositor of all things Scorpio. The Scorpio planets rule the houses of the signs of Leo, Gemini, Virgo, Capricorn and Aquarius. El-Sayed’s Mars is exalted in the sign of Capricorn. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn in Scorpio, configured by sextile to Mars in a favourable mutual reception. Mars is drive, ambition, courage, risk appetite, action-taking. In the cool cardinal earth sign Capricorn, Mars is methodical, calculating, resourceful, and disciplined: the qualities needed to complete a challenging interdisciplinary doctoral degree, and qualities that fuel a fierce and narrow Senate race where the odds initially appeared overwhelmingly in the opponents’ favour.

El-Sayed also embodies the destroyer face of Mars. Mars likes to break things open, tear things apart, poke, pierce, prod, penetrate. El-Sayed’s Mercury is in Scorpio, a communication style that can be reserved and mysterious until the time for the undeniable scorpion’s sting. El-Sayed’s unapologetic in-your-face no-punches-pulled comebacks against right-wing racist rage-baiting are cathartic to witness, especially for those of us used to watching politicians treat Muslims and people of colour as political footballs, beating around the bush when it comes to Islamophobia, xenophobia and anti-Palestinian racism. Not a meek, head-down, model minority, this one.

“Money out of politics, money in your pocket, Medicare for all.” This has been El-Sayed’s rallying cry since Day One. Being based in Australia where we have universal health care and where we’ve historically been a country with decent social benefits, comparatively good wages and impactful unions, this strikes me as a reasonable, even uncontroversial demand. But El-Sayed has been the target of bitter attacks like accusations of links to the Muslim Brotherhood, alleged anti-Semitism and anti-black racism—despite the evidence to the contrary. El-Sayed famously does not take AIPAC funding, a well-worn path among many Democrat officials who parade around progressive values but vote in favour of Israel’s war crimes and apartheid regime. Scorpio can be a polarising placement. Scorpio, after all, dives deep into things that are often covered up. Because of his unambiguous stance against corporate influence and the pro-Israel lobby, El-Sayed has been accused of deliberately being divisive. El-Sayed’s natal Jupiter is in Capricorn, the sign of its fall, a Jupiter whose independent judgment initially leads him to be isolated. Ironically, in the final day before the election, it was the Democratic congresswoman and nomination loser Haley Stevens who bailed on her party by publicly endorsing for the Republican candidate Mike Rogers, even after notable Democrats like Barack Obama, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Bernie Sanders threw their support behind El-Sayed. Stevens’s last-minute about-face led to her being dumped by the Democratic party, with a post on the state party leader’s X account primly stating: “Congresswoman Stevens is not a current member of the Michigan Democratic Party, nor will she be in the future.”

When prodded by media to comment on whether Haley Stevens betrayed the Democratic Party, El-Sayed gave a coy smile and said, “At the end of the day I don’t think about Haley Stevens. I just think about the 9,999,998 other people who aren’t those two [Mike Rogers and Haley Stevens].’ I’m just less interested in the politics of it all than the policy of it all.”

Can astrology tell us if El-Sayed will win? Many of my clients know I have misgivings about predictive, fortune-telling astrology. The absence of a confirmed birth time also means it’s trickier for anyone to tell with absolute certainty, without knowing El-Sayed’s Ascendant, tenth and eleventh houses.

Abdul El-Sayed’s birth chart (inner wheel), end of voting in Michigan Wednesday 3 November 2026 8pm

Looking at the chart I have with transits set to the end of voting, 3 November 2026, 8pm, Michigan, the most fortunate upcoming transit for El-Sayed is the transiting Moon in Virgo trining his natal Jupiter in Capricorn and sextiling his natal Sun. The luminaries harmoniously configured with Jupiter suggest success of a practical, tangible nature. As the Moon journeys through Virgo, she casts her light over El-Sayed’s Scorpio and Capricorn placements through respective sextiles and trines. This week’s Mercury retrograde cazimi in Scorpio on top of his natal Sun is another fortunate transit in the coming days.

Election results can take several days to call, so the New Moon might be transiting through El-Sayed’s Scorpio house by the time a final decision comes. A New Moon conjoining his Scorpio placements might very well herald a new era of young political voices, grounded in grassroots need, primarily loyal to the citizen body, fiercely independent of AIPAC, nurtured in the clip-centric communication battlegrounds of Instagram, TikTok and Twitch rather than the traditional mainstays of Facebook and X. The battle for the Democratic nomination was nail-bitingly close. This election will test our faith in grassroots power.
