Composer, Ebony Rattle’s Winona

In 2023, I was commissioned to do original music for the ongoing season of Ebony Rattle’s Winona, which was staged at Butterfly Club in Naarm in May, and at Hollywood Fringe Festival in June. Ebony Rattle’s Winona was a nominee for the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2023 Best International Show and Best Two Person Show.

In 2024, Queensland reviewer Stephanie Markwell wrote: “A particularly stellar element of Winona was its sound design and score - composed by musician Angelita Biscotti, rich synth sounds carry emotional tension throughout the piece, throbbing with intensity in a manner that often left me nauseous. Loud and abrasive without being overbearing, Biscotti’s ability to navigate between the spectrum of intensity is enviable. Her delivery of bold, brash sounds contrasted beautifully against more subtle, droning moments, and the overall construction of the soundscape of Winona gave the work a sense of polish and professionalism. I was reminded of the scores to works such as Twin Peaks and Welcome to Night Vale - both cult classics within queer communities, Winona felt right at home sitting amongst them.” Read the full review on Nothing Ever Happens in Brisbane.

Melbourne reviewer Mistress of Culture Vulture commended the music, saying, “The dialogue is a tapestry of poetry, musings, reflections, and emotions with a killer soundscape, composed by Angelita Biscotti... If you like Portishead, the Prodigy and The Matrix, you will like Winona.” Read the full review here.

LA reviewer Larchmond Buzz wrote: “Australian duo Ebony Rattle and Joseph Robinson… As if in a dream, they swing between knowing where they are and trying to figure out whether they even know each other. It’s a surreal world of shifting power and mood given nuance by sound designer Angelita Biscotti.” Read the full review here.

DETAILS: Winona is a sixty-minute naked shopping trolley ride through an abandoned car park decorated with bandaids on the knees and elbows from previous wounds. Equal parts soul crushing and absurdly ridiculous, swathed in too much sticky tape to disguise shoddy wrapping skills. A love letter to our neurodiverse and disabled bodies, brains and hearts.
