CURRENT PROJECTS

THE DEPARTMENT OF COSMOLOGICAL ENQUIRY (2022 - present)

The Department of Interactive Cosmological Enquiry uses MIDI-based electronic music composition and minimal-gesture movement-art to ask the question: Do we live in a universe built on chaos or order? By assigning samples and gestures to planets, and generating songs and choreography based on scientifically observable changes in planetary speed and planetary interaction, I mimic, in my body, and in my aural experience, the rhythm of the spheres. "Chaos" and "order" are layered words that mean different things depending on who's asking and who's answering. This phenomenological, body-based naturalistic investigation brings together aesthetics and epistemology, demonstrating how acts of listening/observing/co-creating and co-interpreting lock in and/or expand the ways we make sense of the existence of heavenly bodies and our place in the cosmos.

This project was inspired by a desire to research ways to practice decolonial scholarship through embodied listening and performance. Scientific, social-scientific, and even humanities research methodologies by colonial scholars of the past and their current intellectual heirs privilege control, the perpetuation of extreme inequality and violence against the world's most vulnerable, over cultivating community and creating space for hope and curiosity. The embodied, interpetive investigative methods I propose disrupt the borders between the scholar and the subject of study. Through joy, play and dwelling deeply and rigorously in the body, alternative experiences of the cosmos are possible.

BORDERLINE HAUNTING (June 2022 - Present)

An experimental art-music project inspired by my weekly visits to a local psychoanalyst, updated weekly(ish). The composition process is inspired by the process of free-association, saying and exploring whatever comes to mind without censoring and without judgment, allowing the co-dwelling to be led by curiosity, desire, and compassion. The tracks can be any genre or length. The only requirement is that they are created within seven days of a session with the psychoanalyst, or, if the analyst is on leave, in response to a provocation from a session. What kind of instrument is the unconscious? What sound does the unconscious make as it leaks?
